Special Needs Beds for Children

Sleep Safely - Special Needs Beds for Children

Kayserbetten Story

During 1960s, Peter Kayser, a timber merchant from Northern Germany, had a novel idea for the time. He had a notion of making solid wood furniture for children. Using his extensive knowledge of timber he directed a team of designers and master carpenters to create practical and colorful furniture for children. Most of the children’s furniture in the 60s was made of metal. The warmth, smoothness and texture of specially treated wood which Peter used
for his furniture appealed to parents and children alike, and it was an instant success.

Over the years, KayserBetten has produced an array of innovative solid wood furniture for children, always being mindful of the importance of practical designs, safety, and ecology. KayserBetten has won many awards for its innovations including the prestigious “Most Innovative Product of the Year Award” from the Design Center in Stuttgart, Germany.

In 1978, a friend asked Peter if he could make a special bed for his son Robert who was suffering from cerebral palsy. Robert’s medical condition was causing him to be completely out of control. He had become a danger to himself, and  a nerve wreck to his parents. The KayserBetten team took this difficult challenge. They came up with a highly durable bed for Robert which was enclosed with high bars that Robert could not remove, but the caregiver could , and  allowed  the parents to keep an eye on their child. Both Robert and his parents loved the bed, and for the first time they all slept through the night. Robert’s parents discovered peace of mind in this bed. This unique design became the hallmark of KayserBetten Secure Sleep Systems.

Since 1978 specialty beds for children has been the constantly growing segment of KayserBetten product offering. With a wide variety of beds to meet every requirement of the children with special needs and their caregivers, KayserBetten is a world leader in design and manufacturing of specialty beds.

After having finished their education, Carsten and his brother Timmy have joined their father, Peter Kayser to ensure that the KayserBetten tradition continues into the second generation.
